Interesting thing went down today in Padres land. They introduced a brand new @PetcoPark twitter handle and used it to announce and promote Paul McCartney coming to San Diego for a concert. I enjoy watching this stuff unfold. It started yesterday…
Special #PetcoPark anniversary announcement coming tomorrow. Stay tuned…

Then Bernie Wilson called his shot…
#Padres are teasing a “major entertainment event” to be announced tomorrow; my guess is Paul McCartney will play Petco Park. #REACT. — Bernie Wilson (@berniewilson) July 8, 2014

Then came the official announcement from the brand new twitter handle, that was then RT’d by the official @Padres account, as well as some Padres front office employees.

San Diego media REACTed…
McCartney concert set for Sept. 28 at Petco. Chargers host Jags at 1 that day so will be busy day/night for Trolley system. — Jay Posner (@sdutPosner) July 9, 2014
And, yes, Sept. 28 is a Sunday, despite tweet from @PetcoPark (and @Padres RT) that claimed it was Sat. Hope they get days straight in time. — Jay Posner (@sdutPosner) July 9, 2014
Looks like Petco/Padres got days corrected just as I was sending my last tweet but geez …
— Jay Posner (@sdutPosner) July 9, 2014
Official McCartney release doesn’t have time listed. Amex presale starts Monday (7/14). Padres season-tix holders can buy 7/17. Public 7/18.

This will shock you… bloggers had something to say.
Boy am I stupid for thinking the big Padres announcement would be about baseball.

@VocalMinoritySD I’m betting the other 8 are about whether he’s a GM candidate.

San Diego 6 on top of their game with a “BREAKING” tweet after about a billion people had reported it.
#BREAKING: @PaulMcCartney will perform Sept. 28 at Petco Park — San Diego 6 (@SanDiego6) July 9, 2014
Confirmed by Sir Paul himself… so San Diego 6 was dead-on with their sources.
Paul has just confirmed he will be getting #OutThere in San Diego on Sept 28. Details: http://t.co/FbKHECHcrN pic.twitter.com/DbxUIDf6qz

The new twitter account gained about 100 followers in the first hour. Now let’s see how good the new twitter account is at responding to fans. LUIGI!!!

Anyway, most of you probably don’t care about this kinda stuff and how it unfolds, but I found it pretty savvy that the Padres decided to launch a new twitter handle by using one of the most popular musical names in history.
