Go Ahead… Cast the First Stone

"Tragic: Three photos taken at different times of ‘Ecce Homo’ by 19th-century painter Elías García Martínez, painted on the walls of the church of Santuario de Misericordia – a woman in her 80s tried performing a DIY restoration and has destroyed it."

Everybody’s been blogging about the old lady who tried to restore this 19th century Jesus painting by herself…and now I am. I can’t stop staring at it. Old people are the best. They just do what they want. Good intentions gone bad are no big deal… until they happen all over an ancient painting of Jesus Christ.

Begs the question though…could you have done any better? I was positive I could. So I put my bitmap paint skills to work. Click to enlarge.

Welp, good as I am… I was wrong. The old lady did way better than me. Moral of the story… restoration is hard for the non-professional.

Tell ya what though, the original painting is one of a million paintings of Jesus wearing a crown of thorns… this restoration job is one in a million. I, for one, won’t be shocked when I walk through the pearly gates, give Jesus a big bear hug… stand back to look at Him and say, “Well, I’ll be damned… you really are an eskimo.”
