Rays’ Faux Back Throwbacks Are Padres Inspired

I freakin’ love this. “Oh, you didn’t have a team in the ’70s, preventing you from having all the throwback uniform fun?” Simple solution. Make one up! It’s rather glorious. A great look, and just one more reason to love Joe Maddon…posing like a boss. If you’ve been a lobster for long, you know I love me some throwbacks as noted here and here. The Rays’ll be playing the Tigers when they wear these. Read all about it here.

Oh, and if you don’t think the designers of these unis were staring at photos of the 1979 Padres when they made these… you probably rode the short bus to school.

Oh come on, the numbers are on THE OTHER SIDE! That’s so different!

But jeez, yeah, that’s…well…flattering, I think. Of all the 70′s uni’s they could’ve aped, they chose ours. Because ours fairly scream 70′s. In a good way. The only thing that would’ve made it better was if they used the same brown and gold, just inverted.

I look forward to the day when there is a Pad-Rays throwback game, with the Rays in these and the Pads in their matchy-matchy unis.
