So, I saw this tweet this weekend from Minhee Cho, twitter user: @mintymin, “Hey @PapaJohns just FYI my name isn’t ‘lady chinky eyes,’” Cho tweeted. I, of course, retweeted it with, “Wow. Papa’s in the house.”
In hindsight, I was predictably unclever. Oh well. Either way, somebody’s gonna get fired over that. You don’t call anyone, especially not someone of Asian decent, ‘lady chinky eyes’. Incredibly racist. Apparently I wasn’t the only one tweeting it out, because it’s gained some traction. See CNN story here. Although this Papa John’s receipt is much worse… it did remind me of when the red-headed kid went to Domino’s and they gave him the “Ginger Kid” treatment.
In conclusion… “lady chinky eyes” is much, much more offensive than “ginger kid”. In fact, it’s almost more offensive of me to even compare the two.
