This is the picture of Daniel Day-Lewis on the left taken by a some dude in Virginia, Michael Phillips. It has been crushing the internet the past couple days. Cool to see it side-by-side with Abe Lincoln. If you’ve been living under a rock, Steven Spielberg is making a movie, Lincoln, with Daniel Day-Lewis as Honest Abe. Others in the cast: Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln, Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln.

Craziest thing about this photo? He’s not filming or anything. He’s not in costume. He’s just a dude eating lunch. This is Daniel Day-Lewis’ schtick. When he plays a character… he stays in character until the production is over. So, that dude eating a meal up there… as far as DDL is concerned… he’s Abe Lincoln. Love it.

A bit of an aside: “Bill the Butcher” from Gangs of New York is possibly my favorite character in any movie ever made. I just love him. It’s a genius performance. DDL never broke character during the filming, speaking with a thick New York accent the entire time, all day and night. So pimp. Here are some pictures of The Butcher just because I like to look at him. If you haven’t seen the movie… it’s a masterpiece.

so badass…

    I frickin’ love that mustache.

Never noticed him before the ‘stache. That, combined with his absolute silence for a good 20 minutes at the beginning of that gold mining movie, made me admire his masculine charisma.
