Everglades National Park, FL — Water management contractors working in the Florida Everglades have captured and killed a giant Burmese python that had just consumed an adult deer.

Scott Hardin, exotic species coordinator for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, says workers found the nearly 16-foot-long snake on Thursday.

The reptile was one of the largest ever found in South Florida.

Hardin says the python had recently consumed a female deer that still had hair and weighed 76 pounds. He added it was an important capture to help stop the spread of pythons further north.

Ho…Lee…CRAP! So, you’re a 16 foot python… you’re cruisin’ around looking for food in Florida… “Let’s see, there’s a rat… no. there’s a rabbit…no. there’s a cat…no. there’s a chicken…no. oh look! a deer, I think I’ll eat that.” Pythons, unreal…just munching down 76 pound deer. (yes, the plural of deer is deer.) That, my friends, is why you never fall asleep with your pet python out of it’s cage.

Couple things don’t make sense in this story. First, “The reptile was one of the largest ever found in South Florida.” Is that right? The largest reptile? Alligators are still reptiles, right? Here’s a 14-foot alligator from Florida. I’d say it it’s a tad bit bigger than your python, not longer…larger.

Second thing: Why’d they kill this snake? To “stop the spread of pythons further north“? That’s stupid. Just because it’s a reptile in your state and it’s not a gator, you kill it? You’re murderers, Florida. Poor python couldn’t even bask in the glory of his kill.
