This photo taken of Steve Jobs is thought to be the inspiration for some recent artwork involving Jobs’ silhouette and the Apple logo. Last week, I posted this image as a tribute to Steve Jobs, after his passing. The logo has generated quite a bit of controversy as there are two artists, Jonathan Mak and Chris Thornley that claim the image to be their own. I just read a well-written piece by Michael Cavna of the Washington Post about how sometimes, artists just come up with the same idea, and independently create a very similar piece of art. Mak even wrote a post defending his image. Here are the images side by side. Mak on the left, Thornley on the right.
Pretty close, huh? I prefer the Mak logo, as Steve Jobs’ head is tilted slightly down. Either way, both are amazing. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: You were a good man, Steve Jobs… you will be missed.
